A Square-Enix Kind of Saturday

Good morning everyone,

Well one could say that last night was a Square-Enix kind of Saturday, as we split the stream between Life is Strange Remasterd and Final Fantasy XIV. Why did we do that? Well because I wanted to make sure FFXIV was included in this week's featured content, plus the pacing of Life is Strange would have meant an awkward split-stream on Monday.

Anyway, Episode 3 of Life is Strange, Chaos Theory, is of course the one episode everyone knows since it features when you gave have Max kiss Chloe, plus the entire pool scene and where Max goes back in time to change history so that Chloe's dad lives... but Chloe ends up being paralyzed. One minor change may result in some positives, but other wise things could get really... really screwy. Since we're going in hard with the Max supporting Chloe route, that did mean basically tearing David down during the breakfast scene.

Of course, there was one thing you would have noticed in that I constantly say most of the stuff that happens to Chloe is her own fault, and that is basically true, because she could have accepted that things happen and to try and cope, but she never does. This fact really gets driven home in Before the Storm, particularly if you try and have Chloe make an effort instead of being the whiny woe-is-me drama queen she actually is. Don't get me wrong, I like the pairing of Max and Chloe... BUT... let's be honest, there's a reason why quite a few people choose Arcadia Bay over her and it is justified.

As far as the Final Fantasy XIV half of the stream goes, we mostly did things related to Wondrous Tails, doing a couple of big raids, trials and other stuff. I briefly thought about doing MSQ related stuff but decided against it mostly because of how much dead air there would have been because of cut scenes (voiced and non-voiced). Did discover I did not have the Extreme versions of Trials unlocked related to Stormblood, the Resistance Weapons Quests that apparently adds another area to explore, which would make for some interesting content once I'm done with Endwalker.

For last night's raid we sent the fun over to GGVexy who was doing a Community Appreciation Stream with giveaways while playing Stardew Valley!  They stream over on twitch.tv/ggvexy

Today's Fitness Boxing 2 Daily Workout Featured a 28 minute workout which showcased Body Hook Combo, Uppercut Combo #2 and Body Uppercut Combo as the exercises. The estimated calorie burn for this set was 450 kcal. I did an addition 20 minutes to finish off the requirements for Janice's Champion, which mean's progress towards King EX Fighter is at 88%. My attention will now shift to the Hiro's Champion achievement, we already have at least 30 hours with Hiro as the trainer.

Fitness Boxing 2 Rhythm & Exercise EX Achievements

  • Janice's Champion: Train With Janice for Over 50 Hours

Now way I figure this week will certainly see the wrap up of a few things, with Life is Strange Remastered finished on Monday's stream with Episode 4 & 5, Gears 5: Hivebusters finished on Wednesday, and then Life is Strange: Before the Storm being featured on Thursday and Saturday with it's 3 episodes plus the bonus Farewell Episode. This will more than likely open the doors for the weekly line up to get back to what it was last year with a more stable lineup of a major feature. We shall see how true that becomes.

Jumped into Battletoads earlier this morning to knock out some achievements, which was nearly every one I could do single player that did not involve finding collectables.

Battletoads Achievements

  • The Dlala Code: Entered the Dlala Code during the credits.
  • Blink and You'll Miss It: Defeated 25 pink eyeballs during 'Time For Plan B'.
  • Mementoads: Took a picture with Axeley's standee.
  • Take This, Axeman!: Used spit to keep Axeley's weapon stuck in the ground.
  • Hey, This is a Rental!: Scored 75 near-misses while riding a rented Turbo bike.
  • Warped Sense of Humor: Hit the fake 'Warp Wall' during Nightmare Rider.
  • Not Just for the Holidays: Landed a streak of 15 hits destroying a totem.

A new week begins, but let's check out my favorite clips from this past week which featured: Overwatch, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, Paladins, Capcom Arcade Stadium, Forza Horizon 4, Gears 5, Life is Strange Remastered, Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XIV!

For tonight's stream, well you know what day it is... it's Sunday which means Overwatch! We'll be going after the Auspicious Soldier skin for Soldier 76!

So on that note we'll see you later over on twitch.tv/fredcasden

Brave The Video Game Is A Nice Casual Adventure

Good afternoon everyone,

Well... it snowed yesterday... I figure we got about 4-5 inches where I live. Anyway, for last night's stream, we hooked up the PlayStation 3 to play Disney-Pixar's Brave. Why the PS3 version? Because up until about an hour ago I was unaware the X-Box 360 version is on the backwards compatible list!

Now long time followers of me over on Twitch would know I have played Brave before, but that was the Steam version, and I was looking forward to playing a console version of it when I got a working PS3. So finally choosing last night to play it was an eventuality.

Of course, me being a casual gamer, we took it easy to make our way through the game, exploring every nook and cranny to get all of the collectables (having to back track for one) and managed to complete 35 of the games 48 achievements aka trophies. Since I have not seen the movie, I don't know how faithful it is to it, but I do think I saw enough with the game to want to see it at some point, and I think I had the same feeling when I played the Steam version a couple of years ago.

Its very straight forward in terms of keeping players on the path to journey ahead, but going off that path does result in finding gold which is needed for upgrades and finding the various collectables. There's a great use of being aware of what an enemy's weakness is, as each of the charms has a different element that can make quick work if used on the right opponent... i.e. Ice beats Fire, Fire Beats Ice, Wind beats Earth, Earth beats Wind. The controls are very responsive and don't take long to learn.

Brave does sound good in terms of it s sound effects and music, but I do feel the audio mixing was a bit off as any dialog said is on the low side. Visually... well the Brave has a really drawn out camera, the environments are nice and varied, but getting a good look at the character models of Merida in her various outfits and the enemies is not really possible to appreciate how things look up close.

For the raid, we went to Hover to find someone random, and it was JustBrootal we picked who was playing Call of Duty: Warzone over at twitch.tv/justbrootal!

Today's Fitness Boxing 2 daily workout featured a 31 minute workout with Straight Combo #1, Weaving Combo #2 and Beginner Combo #2. The Estimated Calorie Burn was 481 kcal. At the moment we're at 45/50 for hours trained with Janice for Janice's Champion.

The progress towards the last achievement for Capcom Arcade Stadium is now at 88 hours. If I time it right to get it under 96 hours off stream, we'll feature the last push on stream this week.

My off-stream progress in Final Fantasy XIV was a hell of a lot more positive than the previous one, as I progressed the Main Story Quest from Gateway of the Gods up through In Shadow's Wake. The Twoer of Babil was a fun quick dungeon with the bosses being fairly easy to understand. The Dark Inside trial was a nightmare... from the first time I got downed it lead to me getting resurrected and instantly killed by Zodiark. I pretty much spent all of phase two basically laying down.

Also had a weird instance where I ended up in first-person view and had to scramble to figure out how to get out of it. Didn't think that was a thing in FF14. But what is kind of obvious is that with Zodiark dead... that means Hydaelyn herself is next on the chopping block as one cannot exist with the other. Then there's the fact that Zenos is going to be the final boss of Endwalker... ugh.... and I thought Sephiroth was annoying antagonist with no real purpose.

A new week begins, but let's recap the past week with the Twitch Bits. Last we we featured Overwatch, Battletoads, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, Forza Horizon 4, Gears 5, Final Fantasy XIV, Star Trek Online, Kingdom Hearts III and Disney-Pixar's Brave!

For tonight's stream, well you know what time it is with it being Sunday... it's all about Overwatch, and with the Lunar New Year event going on

I actually liked Battletoads!

Good morning everyone,

I wonder what work has in store for me today, as I look at my bank account to see how badly it was hit because of paying taxes owed.

Anyway, back in December there was a stream where I took a look at Battletoads and liked enough of what I saw to say it will be a game featured in 2022. Well that was the case for last night's stream which indeed featured Battletoads, and outside of the lack of online multiplayer, it was a fine little game. Took me about 4 hours to get through it on the lowest difficulty, but even then a number of the game play elements that take place in it means that a better game would probably have the same time playing through it on a harder setting/ How do I figure that? Because the game is not a straight beat 'em up.

No... Battletoads has a number of different game play gimmicks in it: Beat 'em up, platforming, quick time events, bullet hell shooters... just to name a few... and this would explain why there would not be online multiplayer, since the game couldn't be synced up enough for everyone to handle all the different gimmicks that take place after Act 2.

That said, I really enjoyed the art style, the voice acting, and for the most part the game play... there were a couple of things I thought that were just bad. Also the music is rather generic and repetitive.  But what makes this game great is the story which does a really good job of taking the fact that the Battletoads franchise has basically been dead since the early 90s, and so giving it a new lease on life was pretty cool. I really liked the Dark Queen as former nemesis turned ally, it added some nice comedic moments... not to mention her personalty was a breath of fresh air compared to that of Rash and Zits... Pimple was okay in my book.

Would I recommend Battletoads? Yes I would, but I would suggest playing it if you have folks who can join you for in-person three person co-op, because I bet a lot of stuff in this would be a blast with two other players involved!

For the raid, the fun was sent over to Hawleigh who was playing Horizon Zero Dawn over on twitch.tv/hawleigh!

Today's Fitness Boxing 2 daily workout featured Hook Combo #2, Font-Back Step Combo and Beginner Combo #1 for a duration of 28 minutes resulting in a calorie burn of 459 kcal.

Knocked out a huge chunk of the CASPO grind last night thanks to 1942 being apart of this week's Bonus Campaign, which meant instead of 38,000 per 10 Million Points thanks to the end game bonus of 1942, it was like it was 75,000. So we ended up at 97,000,000 CAPSO... so chances are I'll be able to knock out the rest after tonight's stream.

So what  did I end up watching while that grind was taking place? A Fistful of Dollars, starring Clint Eastwood, which ran for an hour and forty minutes. It is really cool to see 'Joe' play both sides to basically reunite a family, have a hell of a showdown and basically inspire the showdown for Back to the Future III... since this is the movie where hiding a piece of armor under a poncho originated. Got  to love the use of the theme throughout the film as well.

Made some more progress into Endwalker for Final Fantasy XIV, with the quest 'In The Dark of the Tower', being the one that featured The Tower of Zot dungeon... it was interesting, I found the first of the three boss fights in it was the most difficult... which is saying something considering the third boss fight has all that AOE damage spam. Loved 'The Color of Joy' quests which sees the Warrior of Light and the Scions sit down and have a nice little dinner. Also if Alisae doesn't like pickles... but will steal chocolate chip cookies... this is good info to know from a lore building perspective.

For tonight's stream we'll be going back to Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe to play the Mortal Kombat side of the story, and also do some arcade runs!

So on that note we'll see you later over on twitch.tv/fredcasden!

What if up with all the cowardly Tanks?

Good afternoon everyone,

You know, by playing Overwatch every week, one notices some trends...

As was the case last night, now normally queue up for all three roles in Quick Play matches, cause I'm feel I can flex fairly well from Tank to Damage to Support... however, when I was not playing the role of tank, I noticed that a lot of folks are choosing to not engage on the objective if the other team is already there. It got so bad I started reporting people for gameplay sabotage.

But the question is why, why are tanks being so cowardly in games like Overwatch. Yes it's a tough job, hell you see me play the role constantly every Sunday... and even took the role last Thursday with Paladins. Is it fear for not getting healed? Fear of the damage role players not doing their job? Well for me, I've always been balls to wall in Overwatch as D.va, that straight up bulldog that I will go in and take a bite out of someones ass, taking someone down with me if I get eliminated... and it's frustrating to see the opposite approach being taken by other tanks.

Still for the most part, particularly in the first half of the stream, we had a lot of success, and of course big thanks to Chief Beef and PandaSweet for being apart of many of last night's matches. I also had four plays of the game, all as D.va which was pretty awesome.

We did have a bit of weirdness Overwatch with the voice chat being wonky My microphone and everything clearly was working correctly,  it's not the first time that's happened, and it appears to be an issue that was reported on the forums (https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/overwatch-team-chat-not-working/647426) so hopefully it's just a glitch.

For last night's raid we sent the fun over to tidalwave13_ttv who was playing Apex Legends over on twitch.tv/tidalwave13_ttv!

Today's Fitness Boxing 2 daily workout featured Defensive Combo #2, Defensive Combo #1 and Double Combo #1 for 28 minutes and a calorie burn estimated at 448 kcal. At the moment I'm at 41 hours trained with Janice for her Champion achievement. So assuming we hit that mark today, I would guess we would get to the 50 hour mark around February 11th. If there was something that would be useful in Fitness Boxing 2, it would be in the My Data section to list the amount of time worked out each day

My progress with Capcom Arcade Stadium certainly continued, I'm well over 60 hours in towards the 100 hour achievement, and about 56,000,000 points in towards the 100,000,000 required for Rank 20. Good thing I was able to make use of a broken controller for this collection of old arcade games.

Finished off the Thavnair Quest Chain in Final Fantasy XIV, which covered the quests from "House of Divinities" to "The Satrap of Radz-at-Han". There was some nice truth reveals, that Fandaniel was once known as Amon, and that the real ruler of Thavnair is a dragon. All of it really sets up what would be the first major dungeon of Endwalker, 'The Twoer of Zot' which I look forward to seeing first hand.

For tonight's stream we're going to put the focus on Battletoads. Yes we did start it back in December, but we'll work on a new campaign to go through it as I would prefer.

So on that nite we'll see you later over on twitch.tv/fredcasden!

Thoughts on Rise of the Tomb Raider's Baba Yaga

Good afternoon everyone,

Hope everyone had a happy and or merry Christmas yesterday! I know my nieces were pleased with the gifts they got this year!

Anyway, last night's stream saw the return of Rise of the Tomb Raider... mostly for achievement purposes and to play the Baba Yaga story. While it is probably more grounded than anything seen in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the Baba Yaga content certainly gives folks a chance to test their puzzle solving abilities under fire, particularly the encounter with the 'witch' herself. There is a little bit of an issue in regards to the obvious identity of the 'witch', as it was quite clear everything was pointing towards it, but overall I enjoyed it.

Of course most of the time I was searching for items, tombs and caves, as there were various things I wanted to accomplish within the game. I did knock out a couple of side missions, but there are still a number of things I still want to do in this game, so don't be surprise to see it back at random times.

Big thanks to LvStrkR for gifting Ori: The Collection to me for Christmas! Much appreciated dude!

Raids were not working last night on Twitch, and everyone I know was not streaming, so we just closed things out for the night. Very rare that happens!

Rise of the Tomb Raider Achievements

  1. Was That Really Necessary?: Kill any animal with an explosive
  2. Craftswoman: Craft 5 pieces of Equipment
  3. Self-Improvement Junkie: Purchase all skills in one category
  4. These Belong in A Museum: Collect 300 cards
  5. Hide and Seek: Baba Yaga: Rescue Nadia from Trinity
  6. Abandon All Hope: Baba Yaga: Enter the Wicked Vale

Today's Fitness Boxing 2 daily workout featured Body Straight Combo, Triple Combo #1 and Uppercut Combo #1 for a duration of 31 minutes and an estimated calorie burn of 438 kcal.

Installed Gears 5 last night, and knocked out a few basic achievements, such as the tutorial to get started on it. I'm surprised that Gears 5 is much smaller than Gears of War 4 in terms of how much space it takes up on an Xbox console.

Gears 5 Achievements

  1. My Body is Ready: Completed Boot Camp
  2. In the Name of..: Acquired Character Skins for 3 different post launch Characters
  3. Controlled Bursts: Won a Match of Horde Frenzy (any difficulty)
  4. Class Act: Reached level five on any one Assault, one Tank and one Support
  5. You've Got Character, Kid: Own 50 character skins

Did a bit of Final Fantasy XIV last night but just to get some featured side quests advanced, so nothing major.

It's time for this week's Twitch Bits Reel! This past week we played Overwatch, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Battletoads, Jump Force, Pac-Man Championship Edition 2, The Grand Tour Game, Final Fantasy XIV, Capcom Fighting Evolution, Marvel Super Heroes, Mortal Kombat Mythologies Sub-Zero, WWF SmackDown and Rise of the Tomb Raider!,

It's Sunday which means we'll be playing Overwatch tonight, and we'll be gunning to unlock the Mistletoe Symmetra skin!

So on that note we'll see you later over on twitch.tv/fredcasden!

Well Happy Birthday To Me

Good afternoon everybody,

I have leveled up today, as its my birthday... I am now 39 Years Old. Most would say I'm just wasting my life... they are probably right, but hell, to each their own.

Anyway, last night's stream certainly had no plan as I didn't want to start up anything major or risk finishing a game, so we revisited some old favorites and checked out something I'm considering as a game to feature in 2022.

First up, was the return of The Grand Tour Game, which involved a delay in me doing any gaming during the stream because I had to wait for it to finish installing. It was a great revisit to just doing the first episode. Took me a while to remember how to do things correctly, as I did earned gold medals on every event back in 2020. But something funny happened when I was porting over last night's stream, apparently Amazon doesn't want any footage of the game to exist, and thus blocked the entire stream... so the segment of The Grand Tour Game will be edited out.

Next was Pac-Man Championship Edition 2, this was mostly just trying the score attack. Trying to earn an S Rank in this is not easy, as tracking the ghosts when we get the power pellet is a major weakness. Still managed to get a clutch 'A' Rank, so that's something.

We checked out Battletoads, which game out last year as an X-Box exclusive... and boy the all important aspect of online co-op not being a thing is a major downer. Still it is a game that looks great, is pretty easy to learn the basics of and has some nice humor to it. This is a game we will stream in 2022, which means the save file I've started will be deleted.Still we earned about eight achievements, so that was cool

Finally we jumped back into Jump Force, and I was hoping to get some S-Ranks on Hard Missions to get another achievement and get a step closer to 100% completion, but things did no shake out the way I was hoping in terms of finishing with Awaken Abilities. I did dive back into Jump Force after the stream and was able to knock out the two achievements I want to do... one part thanks to an 'character' event where using One Piece and Yu-gi-Oh character lead to a multiple of two to various mission rewards.

Big thanks as always to Kalenal for the raid during the stream. Last night they were featuring Final Fantasy XIV over on twitch.tv/kalenal!

Following the stream we sent the fun over to Sw33ts_gaming who was playing Super People over on twitch.tv/sw33ts_gaming. From what I can tell Super People is just your typical battle royal game.

Battletoads Achievements

  1. Dodgebrawl Champion: Finished a fight without taking damage.
  2. Brawling… With Style!: Earned your first 'S' Rank from an encounter.
  3. Toads in a Hole: Escaped from the simulation bunker.
  4. It Begins…: Got your first collectable.
  5. Road Rash: Went in search of the evil Dark Queen.
  6. Into the Third Dimension: Used your tongue to reach the background.
  7. Battlemaniacs: Defeated 100 enemies.
  8. Parks & Recreational Violence: Battled through a creepy amusement park.

Jump Force Achievements

  1. Reliable Companions: Raised ten support characters above level 70 through battle.
  2. A Master Warrior: Got S rank 10 or more times on Hard Free Missions.

Today's Fitness Boxing 2 daily workout featured Hook Combo #2, Front-Back Step Combo and Beginner Combo #1 for a duration of 28 minutes and an estimated calorie burn of 454 kcal.

I can safely say that the rest of this week will feature different games on Friday and Saturday, I might go back to Rise of the Tomb Raider to work on some achievements associated with that on Friday. Would be rather interesting if I go that route. This would mean both Fist of the North Star and Pokemon Shining Pearl being saved for next week.

Managed to finish a fan fic commission based around the WWE in 2010... and got paid for it promptly. Always nice when that happens. Might consider doing another one for the same client. .

For my birthday stream, I will be playing Final Fantasy XIV, and my focus will mostly be with the Eden side quests that were apart of Shadowbringers. We might do other trials and dungeons and stuff as well.

So on that note we'll see you later over on twitch.tv/fredcasden!
