(Note: I was considering making this my video commentary for the week, but after seeing Mr. Smallwood tweet about his displeasure of people making videos based off his work, I figure I’d just leave this as blog post)
Recently I’ve been watching a lot of videos on the YouTube channel ‘Fact Fiend with Karl Smallwood’, a channel that sees Mr. Smallwood deep-dive into fascinating facts and trivia about whatever topic interests him, with a good portion of the videos being based on articles he wrote earlier in his career. It really is an awesome YouTube channel, and I personally will load it up when I’m doing off-stream gaming, and while there were many videos of Fact Fiend with Karl Smallwood that I found really fucking cool, the one that caught my attention was the one titled “Batman Really Does Carry Shark Repellent Spray’ which was posted in 2019 and based on article Mr. Smallwood wrote in 2015. The video was of course a deep-dive into the 1966 Batman film starring Adam West and the often-mocked scene of Batman using Shark repellent and actually having it at the ready in the Bat-chopper, but what got my attention was Mr. Smallwood’s comment about that version of Batman being the most accurate live-action portrayal of the character.
And you know what, Mr. Smallwood is actually more right than anyone would actually believe here in 2020, after all most people view the likes of either the Tim Burton or Christopher Nolan films of being what a ‘live action’ Batman would be like. And if you’re talking about the actual tone of the film, I’d agree with you in the case of the Tim Burton films (as the Nolan films can fuck the right off), but when you think about the common trope of Batman being prepared for anything because he’s always several moves ahead, then the only live action version of the character that does that is the Adam West version.
So now of course comes the time for me to ‘prove my work’, well it’s easy, with the Batman 1966 film being a continuation of the television series that debuted that same year (how crazy is that fact), one must take note that television series didn’t open with an origin story. No the first episode “Hi Diddle Riddle’ shows that Batman has been operating for quite some time, already has a working relationship with the police and that he’s crossed paths with the Riddler before, but there is a scene in it towards the cliffhanger ending, where The Riddler tries to steal the Batmobile, but activates an anti-theft device. Now think about how the Batmobile looks in the 1966 TV series, it doesn’t have a roof and anyone would have easy access to try and steal it, then realize that the suped-up Batmobile in Batman Returns basically was hacked and sabotaged by the Penguin's clown brigade in Batman Returns. Add on to that, in that same scene, The Riddler tries to destroy the Batmobile, and activates an anti-fire device that puts out the flames. So Batman was prepared to make sure that his car was basically impossible to mess with.
And this is just the top of the iceberg as it relates to how prepared this version of Batman was. He had a translation device to translate ancient Egyptian into English, the Bat-chopper for obviously flying around the city, the Bat-boat for anything that required him to go out into open water, an unfold-able bulletproof Batshield… hell the 1966 series version of Batman is so-prepared that he even has a voice-modulator that enables Alfred to sound like him in case the butler has to done the Bat-suit for a brief period of time. Other items included a portable lab-kit, homing transmitters, lie-detectors, brain-wave analyzers, ear plugs, magnifying lens…. But the real sign of how prepared Batman in the 1966 series was a three-dimensional restorer.
Seen in the season three episode “The Entrancing Dr. Cassandra”, this device restores Batman, Robin and Batgirl back to the normal selves after they were flatten when blasted by a ray gun that converts three-dimensional objects into two-dimensional variants. Think about how over the top-prepared Batman had to be to have such a device on stand-by. Now you could say Batman thought of this based on the fact in the 1966 films he had a device to restore the United Nations ambassadors to normal and anticipated that maybe someone someday could make him into a literal cardboard cutout , still there’s being prepared… and there’s thinking up every possible problem imaginable to where you have a device at the ready to counteract it. Hell at this point I'm thinking it's this version of Batman that could pretty much prepare to deal with Superman and if you consider that Frank Miller 'Dark Knight Returns' is often credited for erasing the 'campy nature' of Batman popularized by the 1966 series, then one would have to make note that level of preparedness Batman showed in that comic was basically taken from the television series and its film.
Side note: One could argue that maybe the Batman seen in the 1997 Joel Schumacher directed ‘Batman and Robin’ film is probably a close second in terms of being as prepared as the 1966 version, but a lot of the gadgets seen in that movie come across more as they were created as a reaction to dealing with Mr. Freeze (as it’s established early in the movie he’s been an on-going menace). This version of Batman had ice-skates built into the boots and a portable heat laser to defrost Robin when he was frozen… and these seems like things Batman would have made after the first run-ins with the chilliest of villains. The only device I recall in that film that seems like Batman had the fore-site to plan for was a remote kill-switch to shut down the engine of Robin’s motorcycle because of how reckless his partner was being. And of course there is the Bat Credit Card, which makes sense that maybe Batman needed to get something he didn’t have already on hand (or wanted to buy a woman at an auction).
So let’s bring this rather long rant to a close, that in my opinion, the 1966 TV Series / Film version of Batman is the most-prepared live action representation of the character ever seen.

Off-Stream Twitch Sings Solos
So after over a year, I finally got around to getting a pop-filter for my microphone (well two actually, because I wasn't sure which one would be best) and the real test for it is I can move the microphone closer so I can cut down on projecting my voice loudly towards it. These Twitch Sings solos were basically me making constant adjustments to see what worked and what didn't. Enjoy
Shepard Meets Samus, The Bunny meets Nintendo Characters
This past weekend I had an idea for two new art pieces, and of course I went to Daemonswolf (www.darkwolfcreative.com) to see what she can do with them. As always, she comes through with in a big way. of course The first piece is the first non-Bunny commission I sent to Daemonswolf features Commander Shepard of Mass Effect meeting Samus Aran of Metroid. The second sees The Bunny dressed as Luigi getting photo-bombed by the likes of Mario,
Yoshi, MetaKnight and Kirby, and its a great silly piece to celebrate
the fact that my gaming lineup has expanded to include Nintendo games
Rant: Marvel Cinematic Universe
After having a hanging rod inside a closet snap at the crack of dawn and dealing with picking up clothes off the floor, I figure instead of going back to bed I might as well write something, an opinion piece just to kill some time. So I grabbed a few comics from one of my long boxes, and most of them were Marvel comics and then I started thinking about the movies and how uninterested I am in the next wave of Marvel Cinematic Universe films
Don't get me wrong, up till before Captain America Civil War, the majority of the films were enjoyable and actually focused on character development. Hell, Iron Man, Captain America and Thor basically showed not only the origins of the characters but their gradually growth towards the heroes they eventually become at the end of each film, and while the sequels to those films certainly have been a mixed bag, the development of the characters continued forward but all that pretty much stopped when someone at Disney or Marvel realized that they can sacrifice good story telling, character and world building with pretentious preaching and even more flashy visuals and really bad comedy because the 'herd' was going to pay to see it... and if they weren't, hell Disney could just buy mass-bulk of tickets for any first weekend showings that didn't have sell out crowds to inflate the numbers while also claiming they haven't made an actual profit on any MCU film since Captain America Civil War.
So what killed my interest in the MCU, well it was two films... the first being Doctor Strange and the second being Captain Marvel. With Doctor Strange it was an overly long drawn out mess of a movie that tried to cram what was essentially all the character development Tony Stark got over several films into one, because they needed to not only have the character of Doctor Strange introduced to the general public but to get him established firmly and show how powerful he can be as a literal Deus Ex Machina. Then you got that pretentious and preachy mess of Captain Marvel which not only had the same problems as Doctor Strange while also being longer, but also was a prequel to the entire MCU that basically undermined 10 years of continuity to say at the last minute that the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe revolves around the character of Captain Marvel, who established in their own origin film as to be nothing more than basically another Deus Ex Machina. Between those two films I basically said fuck it with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, because I really got the impression that those overseeing the MCU really didn't have a clue of how to get themselves out of the literal corner they were writing themselves into with the debacle that ended up being Infinity War and Endgame, where everything felt rush in an effort to pass the torch to the 'next phase ' of films while rewriting and erasing even more continuity to make things more in line with a vision of style over substance.
But the real sad thing is, because of the unique status of Sony having the rights to Spider-Man and Universal having the film rights to the Hulk, their presence in the MCU basically have been regulated to being side-characters, they are part of the ensemble because Disney/Marvel can't make solo films involving them... which means they have to be teamed up with other characters. You know who else basically was used in that same format within the MCU, Black Widow, Hawkeye, War Machine and Winter Soldier, Black Panther, Falcon, Vision, Scarlet Witch, all of whom are introduced were or are apart of the on-going narrative, actually ADDING the proceedings while not being a detriment to what's going on, they either have a plot of the film (or two) revolve around them like Winter Solider or help advance the story going forward while eventually getting their own film like with Black Panther. If Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel were used like this, basically integrated into the MCU where one felt rushed and the other basically had everything re-written to be all about them, I probably would have better feelings towards the MCU going forward.
Unfortunately we got what we got, and well I don't trust those over seeing the creative aspect of these films to want to waste my money on them going forward.
Commision Piece By Luunastra
The great thing about knowing many different artists, is actually wanting to see what they can do with a base concept, in this case my mascot, the infamous Bunny. This time around I went to Lunnastra, an artist who I've met through Twitch as a regular on the channel for FluffyWuffie. Lunnastra does some great character work and seeing their spin on the Bunny really turned out wonderfully in my opinion.

First Impressions: Animal Crossing New Horizons
This week, for the first time, I played an Animal Crossing game and so here are my initial impressions of the game that basically was a major reason to buy a Nintendo Switch, Animal Crossing New Horizons.

#TwitchBlackOut Wednesday June 24, 2020
As many know I am a Twitch Streamer, and I have to know quite a lot of people over on Twitch, many of whom I happily call friends. Some of the equipment and software I use from my current PC and consoles to speakers, mouse, keyboard and game-pads to even some games was made possible because of them... so what I say does not come lightly.
This Wednesday night I will not be streaming as part of the #TwitchBlackout boycott in regards to how poorly Twitch has handled issues of racism, abuse, sexual harassment and rape. There have been victims, both male and female, that have been forthcoming with issues that dates back to at least two years ago, when those in charge said they want to be held accountable for failing to addresses these issues. Well now it's time, we're putting actions to words. The decision to take part was thanks to some of my audience helping me figure out what would be the best way to handle it. I could of course do a stream on YouTube or even here on Facebook, but a total blackout seems appropriate.
I will be streaming Tuesday night and then regular broadcasts will resume on Thursday evening.

Looking Back: Co-Writing A Lot Of Fan Fiction
So if your follow me on twitter you'll notice I do follow people who write mature-rated fan fiction, some of them are folks I've come to know and others are people who I'm big fans of, so there is a reason for that. Way back around this time in 2004, I got heavily involved with writing fan fiction based on on the world of pro wrestling by giving a bit of feed back on a piece co-written by writer name Kristi, and that kicked off over a decade of writing for us, where we covered every possible scenario we can think off based off of WWE story lines, gimmicks and characters. Now most of our work was on the now defunct WOWEFA, but just about everything was more posted in a Yahoo group's file section that has since been removed thanks to the Yahoo / Verizon not finding Groups worth keeping around these days.
Being critical as I look back at well over 2000 pieces of fan fiction, I can say we certainly had a tendency to letting series run too long, and proofreading was really neither of our strengths. Our characterization and just general formulaic approach really made things weird when we put together larger projects... and without question, a lot of the things we wrote didn't age well. I know I had and still have a real lack of variety of putting words together in forming a sentence, so when I look back at just things I know I did I just want to proverbial bang my head against wall. Still that comes with the territory when one looks back at one's own work and just cringe while wondering if something could've been written better. Hell we probably would've been better served if we did more than just focus on pro-wrestling, but we never could connect on other pop culture realms.
But the important think is we had a lot of fun along the way. Sure we had our creative differences. arguments cause we both had real strong opinions as it came to our fandom, but I think more often than not, things were positive. Hell we had nights where we'd write from like 7 PM EST to like 4 AM EST, and we wrote damn near every day, only taking nights off for Sunday pay-per-views. It was rare we didn't at least chat once a day to go over an idea, put together a rough outline or look up details of dates, venues, match cards to make sure things fit a timeline. We put a lot of effort into everything we did, with nearly every one-shot story being at least 5 pages, and we had somethings going well beyond 100 pages. It was a huge amount of personal time invested on both of our parts.
Which is why every now and then I consider going through and finding away to preserve anything since that was a huge part of my life, maybe upload everything to Archive of Our Own, but to get everything in the correct format, not to mention trying to clean up typos, double spacing and fixing wrapped text issues would take a long time, and I have been put off by investing that much of my time doing that. Plus, there are a lot more talented people writing fan fiction of his sort these days that it would feel weird putting things out there from 16 years ago.
And it's why this time of year always makes me remember fondly, and I do keep in touch with Kristi on occasion, but this is probably the first time outside of the fan fiction writing community I've straight up talked about it in any regards. I enjoyed writing and I met some great folks along the way thanks to it.
Introducing The Space Bar
On Friday of last week, I went about streamlining my stream, primarily because I want a more unique look that is just for my stream, and I realized I needed a background since I was getting ride of the chat only overlay which basically covered 70% of the screen. So I went to DaemonsWolf (https://www.darkwolfcreative.com) and even though she normally doesn't do just backgrounds, I loved what she did by including the Purgatory bar from Mass Effect 3 in a previous piece, so I knew she could come up with something cool. This background will make its debut during tonight's stream over at twitch.tv/fredcasden

Thoughts on AT&T Shutting Down WB Interactive
It shouldn't come as a shock to anyone who has seen the complete mess that always comes as the result of corporate mergers and buyouts, that sometimes certain divisions that were once pillars of one company are basically kicked out the fucking door by the new corporate power structure to make sure the 'bottom line' is as pretty as possible for stockholders. Perhaps the biggest once most people my age can recall would be the AOL-Time Warner merger which basically saw World Championship Wrestling get sold off to the then World Wrestling Federation for a couple of million dollars, because a.) the accounting practices of Turner Broadcasting and then Time Warner were fucking abysmal and b.) people really hated that the only reason anyone watched TNT was for the wrestling on Monday Nights.
Still, in the realm of video games, it's probably not as noticeable as often video game publishers like Blizzard or Electronic Arts stay within their lane... but when outside companies come in, say for example Disney, things gets a little strange. Everyone knows Disney as a media empire, the House of Mouse has had its fingers in so many pies from amusement parts, movies, television shows, comic books and of course video games, and for the most part Disney handles things in-house as it relates to its various divisions, often striving for the peak of quality of whatever it is they are doing... right up until affects their bottom line. You see Disney had an in-house video game Division, obvious called Disney Interactive Studios that was around from 1988 to 2016, to make their own games and distribute them to the various consoles out on the market. But Disney being Disney, overtime they found it cheaper to just licensee things out to other publishers to do the developing, marketing and distribution in order to maximize their own profits. It's why Disney basically shutdown Lucas Games who was working on the Star Wars 1313 game (that most people were looking forward too) and awarded the license rights to Star Wars games to Electronic Arts.
So what we're seeing with AT&T and their move to shut down and sell off the studios associated with WB Interactive which includes NetherRealm Studios and Rocksteady is that they are looking to just licenses out their intellectual properties. They make a profit off of it it because a video game publisher is paying for the right to make a game based on something they own and also get a good size of the profits of anything sold, the risk entirely falls on that of the publisher. They not only must develop and sell a quality product they have to do under the pressure of having to make the another company 'happy'. It's why when EA screwed up royally with Stars Wars Battlefront II it was such a big deal and a blow to the Star Wars brand that Disney basically had to step in and tell them to get their act together , threatening to pull the license and award it to another publisher. It's why EA basically got rid of micro-transitions as it related to SWB2 for quite some time before slowly rolling them back in. In the case of AT&T, which will still own the rights to Mortal Kombat and obviously the DC Comics franchises, they are going to be in seat Disney has been in.
Now, What does this mean for things like Mortal Kombat... well once would assume that whoever buys NetherRealm Studios would get the Mortal Kombat license to go along with it and probably will still have the permission to develop the Injustice series for further installment, but now the risk ends up being there could be a chance that if NRS gets shutdown by whoever buys them, another studio would work on the MK games. So one would worry if say Electronic Arts bought NRS, and known their habit of shutting down studios and basically restructuring them to the point they can't be effective... but considering that the Mortal Kombat franchise is so huge, I wouldn't worry too much, but I'd have that in the back of my mind the entire time.
The real question is who do we want getting their hands on these different studios and getting access to the various licenses to the AT&T catalog? From my point of view, the big ones are Microsoft, Sony, EA and Blizzard. Microsoft and Sony would make whatever they get their hands on console exclusives, so of the two, I'd want Microsoft to have the rights to things since you not only have the Xbox release but also PC versions, and they have proven to be willing to work with Nintendo to expand things to the Switch. Sony on the other hand would want to keep everything to their systems only, so this would probably reignite the console wars based on what games are exclusive to what system. With EA and Blizzard, they'll want to release whatever is developed on as many systems as possible, but both have made decisions that were not in the best interest of their customers for the sake of profits.
Anyway.... that's just my opinion

Twitch Milestone, Nintendo Switch and Pokemon Shield: Oh My!
This week we hit the 1000 follower mark over on my Twitch channel, and we celebrated by following through on a plan I put in place back at the end of February to add a Nintendo Switch (and how I managed to get one when they are pretty scarce), my reaction to the button layout and what was it like playing a Pokemon game for the first time in nearly 20 years!

New Art Work From DarkWolf Creative
I once again commissioned new artwork from DaemonsWolf over at DarkWolf Creative (https://www.darkwolfcreative.com) and this time, it was some two cross over pieces. While both features my infamous sidekick, one sees him pondering how to get an idol with Indiana Jones and Lara Croft. The little detail of having the Bunny wearing a shirt the same color as Lara's top was real neat. The second piece sees the Bunny hanging out in a bar with Wrex from Mass Effect and Marcus Phoenix from Gears of War. The bar location is of course Purgatory seen from Mass Effect 3 and that setting location was determined by DaemonsWolf, and is a great example of why I often just give a general idea of what I'm looking for when I commission anything because I don't think I could've came up with that in my original pitch.

Art From My Youth
My aunt sent me these pictures that I drew way back in I think 1991 or 92 (time frame is based on the fact I tried to draw Darkwing Duck), and man I guess what colors I had to work with were really limited LMAO
Ghostbusters: A Big Part Of My Life
As we all know, prior to the Covid-19 outbreak, the movie Ghostbusters: Afterlife was supposed to be hitting theaters next month... and so I thought why not write a piece about what Ghostbusters means to me. Being born in late 1982 means I got to grow up with a lot of things, a lot of different influences that in many way shaped me into the person I am today, in terms of how I look and respond to things, what I look for in a show, movie television or video game. Now the earliest franchise I remember absolutely loving was Ghostbusters. Not because of the movie, but because of the REAL Ghostbusters animated series, which aired in syndication and on Saturday mornings on ABC.
Now I can't recall when I first saw the movie, which I know was on VHS, because the version of the film we had was in the RCA red border box... but I do remember the first episode I saw, or one of the earliest episodes, it was 'Knock, Knock', the episode where a Subway construction crew accidentally opens a door that unleashes all sorts of ghosts into our world, and Ghostbusters have to go down into the Subway to seal it, but I think the scene in it that connected with me the most was when they get on a Subway train to head towards the disturbance, with the lights going out and then suddenly our heroes are surrounded by skeletons dressed like passengers and they close in on the boys... then the lights go out again, and suddenly the scene lights up with the Ghostbusters firing their proton streams. What follows if I remember right is a scene of seeing the train on the tracks, with the windows being blown out, obviously indicating the Ghostbusters are fighting off the monsters, but we don't see what's happening in the train, and it's the first time I can really think I imagined what was happening... are they running from car to car, do they remain back to back and firing wildly, we don't know... and it was exciting. So that hooked me. At some point I saw the movie and while not fully understanding as a young kid how come the characters look different than the cartoon (cause I was an idiot, which is something I still claim to be today lol), the spirit of what I saw in the cartoon certainly was reflected in the source material. I think it was the first time I saw something can exist in different forms, a live action movie, a cartoon, and eventually comic books. I remember getting a whole bunch of REAL Ghostbusters merchandise, in fact I still have my Stay Puft Marshmallow Man (the hat was lost a long time ago). I remember having the Proton Pack, all of the original figures, the firehouse, the Ecto-One and other vehicles (Ecto-2 gyro-chopper, the Ecto-3, and a Volkswagon Beetle type car that transformed into a monster if I remember right). It's a shame I moved around so much that a lot of those toys became lost over time... but I still got My. Stay Puft! Hell one of the first comic books I remember having was issue number one of The REAL Ghostbusters published by NOW Comics in I think 1990/1, and I made sure to get it again when I got back into comic book collecting a few years ago. So yeah I was a big fan. I remember seeing Ghostbusters 2 in theaters in 1989 (which was the best summer of movies ever!) and loving it, cause by that point I understand the relationship between the films and the cartoons and I was super-stoked when there was an episode of the cartoon that mentioned Vigo. Hell I remember seeing The REAL Ghostbusters Halloween special along with the Garfield Halloween special in the same night and thinking that Peter Venkman and Garfield sounded the same. Yes this was Dave Coulier's Venkman, but to me as a kid, his take on Venkman sounded close to Garfield
Now of course I will admit that I kind of migrated towards The Ninja Turtles in the early 90s when The REAL Ghostbusters faded out from view, but I think it was 1991 I discovered Star Trek and I remembered there being a Real Ghostbusters episode that made so many references to Star Trek which I had no clue what it was until I saw Spock and saw the character similarities to Egon. So yeah I got into Star Trek because of Ghostbusters, go figure and Star Trek became the big franchise I was into...for the duration of the 90s. But when I read in an issue of Disney Adventures that there was a new Ghostbusters cartoon coming in the fall of 1997, I instantly returned to my original fandom. Extreme Ghostbusters was different than REAL Ghostbusters, but it was a sequel, the original Ghostbusters were disbanded, everyone was older... and so a new generation who were being mentored by Egon was going around busting ghosts, and this was real cool to me. Not only because by that point I was entering High School, but the new characters of Kylie, Roland, Eduardo and Garrett were depicted as being not to much older than I was. The stories were in many regards, a lot more darker than many of the REAL Ghostbusters episodes, and the references to pop culture in the show were more in-line with what I was familiar with,. But here's something you won't believe, but its true Extreme Ghostbusters was the first time I understood what antisemitism and racism was in the episode "True Face Of A Monster'. Of course most people remember Extreme Ghostbusters for the two-part episode Back in the Saddle that saw Ray Winston and Peter return... and of course there was that mention of a third movie, which lead me really discovering the internet. I remember going to my High School's library every day at lunch time to search for news of Ghostbusters 3... sadly that never happened. But much like REAL Ghostbusters, Extreme Ghostbusters stuck with me for a long period of time... hell my first attempts of fan fiction were based on Extreme Ghostbusters, and I submitted some artwork to the Ghostbuster Fan Forum back in 2001 during my failed army career. I did get some of the toys associated with Extreme Ghostbuster, namely the Ecto-1 and I think I managed to find the Kylie, Roland and Eduardo figures.... and those got destroyed when my grand-parents basement got flooded in 2003.
Fast Foward to the mid-2000s with Ghostbusters The Video Game, which obviously was a continuation of the films, but including a few nods to the cartoons, and I loved it. It was a day-one pre-order for me and I remember taking off work, waiting for a FedEx truck and playing it on my PlayStation 3 from like 3 in the morning because of how good it was. I have sense bought the game three times, once the original Steam version for PC, then the re-mastered for PC *which I streamed on Twitch earlier this year) and also for Xbox One just to cover all my basis. The multiplayer on the PS3 version was a ton of fun and I'm hoping it gets implemented at some point for the remastered versions, but I'm not holding my breath. I checked out several of the IDW Published Ghostbusters comics and I love the fact that Kylie Griffin was apart of them in a key supporting role, since Kylie was for me, the star of Extreme Ghostbusters. So now can you take a wild guess of what my reaction was to Ghostbusters 2016 was based on not only growing with the REAL Ghostbusters as a kid, and having Extreme Ghostbusters as a teenager? While I was excited when a third Ghostbusters film was announced... that excitement started to die a quick death when I saw that Paul Feig was the director, and all of his work was basically just 'gender swapped parodies' of other films. So to make this quick, for me Ghostbusters 2016 is a rotten film that has only one redeem quality and that is the character of Jillian Holtzman. Clearly Kate McKinnon didn't intended for this, but with what she did with Holtzman made it seem like she was the only character that could fit in with the two previous Ghostbusters films and the animated series, and it's the only reason why I bought the Funko Pop and Action figures of the character because the idea of Holtzman connected with me the way everything prior to the release of Ghostbusters 2016 had. Also of note that same day I also watched the Ghost Heads documentary to watch to basically wash the taste out of my mouth as soon as I got home (and yes I did contribute to that Kickstarter campaign and got the DVD along with the Funk Pop of Winston in an Ecto-1)
With all that said, I'm looking forward to Ghostbusters: Afterlife with cautious optimism and hopefully, the next big Ghostbuster experience to come along will be a positive one like the majority of things with the franchise has been with regards to me. I'm actually hoping that the COVID-19 stuff will be under-control by next year so I can see it in theaters, but we'll just have to wait and see won't we.

Camden's Police Is Certainly Not A Little Passeri
This is more or less inspired by my back and forth with fellow Twitch streamer YourStarling over on Twitter these past few weeks, and let me begin that I totally get that she is very passionate about her stance on things, and like with everyone in this world, it does not mean she's wrong or that I'm right, or that I'm wrong and she's right. We all have our different points of view on various situations, we all want to see things improve, however the road to get there is not always clear cut.
Now obviously the topic of Defunding The Police, a battle cry of many protestors and politicians in the United States is triggering bit of conversation in the wake of everything that has happened since the murder of George Floyd up in Minnesota, but the thing is, you don't want to Defund the Police in a period of social unrest, you want to start rebuilding it.
Just about seven years ago, my home town of Camden, New Jersey fired everyone associated with the city police at that time and began the long process of rebuilding it from the ground up. It was a complete wipe out of the old guard and the union that basically was holding up progress. In the time since then, I have seen more police officers patrolling neighborhoods, crime has dropped over 40% since, complaints of the police using excessive force has dropped from over 60 complaints in 2015 to only 3 in 2019. Hell the obvious sign there was a difference made is that I don't hear gun shots every night anymore. The police are now a staple of the community, there is no where near the animosity seen towards out police force as compared to what's seen across the Delaware River in Philadelphia as of late. It's really a night and day approach,
Now is Camden's more community approach perfect, well no, nothing is perfect, but compared to complete anarchy in letting citizens police themselves and leaving things as they were, Camden certainly is giving an example of how to do things. We went from having half the police force with none of the proper training to one that specializes in deescalation of trouble, after all there has to be a reason why over 130 other law enforcement agencies are looking for new ways of doing things, because it's clear the old ways aren't working and you don't want chaos in the streets. And sure as a city Camden has a long way to go, but guess what, we're on our way and with our improving police department that is changing with the times, we'll get there.

How Sony Killed My Interest In Console Gaming For 6 Years
For many, their first video game console was a Nintendo Entertainment System in the 1980s, for me, however the first time I ever played a video game was on an IMB Tandy 1000 from Radio Shack and I didn't get my first console until 1994, when my father got me and my younger bother a Sega Genesis. We had a few games, things like Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Ghostbusters, Mortal Kombat 3, Alien 3, Street Fighter II (the one with Cammy, Fei Long, T-Hawk and DeeJay). Now I was always more of a Computer gamer, as I had the mentioned Tandy 1000, and then was given a Compaq in 1992/3 so I could play Star Trek 25th Anniversary and a lot of the Lucas Film Games... but there was something cool about console gaming that I liked, where I didn't have to be sitting at my desk to play games, I could be in front of the TV which had a bigger screen than my computer at the time.
So fast forward a few years, my PC gaming was upgraded to an IBM PC with Windows 95 and there were plenty of Sega ports of games for it that I could play, so it wasn't until 1998/9 when I was given PlayStation to replace my Sega Genesis which developed a bad fault. The PlayStation was awesome, I didn't have to worry about my PC being able to run games and there were a lot of stuff on the original PlayStation that appealed to me, like Grandia, Chrono Cross, WWF Attitude, Rival Schools and others. When the PlayStation 2 was announced, I was like whoa, a whole new system that could also play my old games. I didn't waste time, hell I was in the middle of my failed military career and got a PlayStation in the Fall of 2001, making it the first time I bought a console on my own. Again the great appeal was being able to get the new games while still being able to use my old ones. This was really damn cool to me.
And I stood with the PS2 all the way up until 2008, two years after the initial release of the PS3 which I in the summer of that year, primarily because I was really into the WWE at the time, and the PS2 version of SmackDown vs RAW 2008 was a little... underwhelming. A big reason why I was so hesitant of getting a PS3 at the time was because I could use my PS2 games with it... unless I basically bought them again from the PlayStation Network Store (such was the case with Beyond Good and Evil), this was really a kick in the crotch for me. The only saving grace was that the PS3 could still run the PS1 era games that I had so there was that... but man, My PS3 lasted until October of 2013, one month before the release of the PlayStation 4...
Which was when I basically said fuck console gaming. You see I saw the news that the PS4 would not be backwards compatible with any games from the previous three eras of the system. We went from having the best way to do things with the PS2... to the disappointment of the PS3... and now the PS4 wouldn't have any way to play the games I purchased. No what Sony basically did was selling HD remasters of PS2 games.. which people bought and that carried over into how the planned to do things with the PS4. You want to play your favorite games from the previous three generations... well now you'll have to purchase them AGAIN. Now I have no problem buying multiple versions, but what I am against is being exploited as a consumer... and Sony basically was giving the big fuck you to loyal customers.
Obviously Microsoft responded to this by selling games digitally from its catalog to have them be backwards compatible, so folks could play Original Xbox on their Xbox 360, and of course games from both systems on on their Xbox One's.. or if they still had the disc they could (what a shock) insert the disc into their system and a re-license of the game was assigned so someone didn't have to buy the game again. But since I was not an Xbox gamer, this didn't appeal to me at the time... because well Sony pissed me off that much.
So what brought me back to console gaming... well I have to credit the likes of Iceman7667 and Lunar_Princess for that. Iceman who has been apart of the my Wednesday night streams over the past several months, wanted me to join in playing The Division 2 was a big reason why I went with the Xbox One. And Lunar_Princess has teased me about just playing PC games and missing out on all the stuff that was on console only. Microsoft's backward compatible library also was a huge factor for me as well, Now will I give Sony another chance with the PS5... well only if it can match what Microsoft does with allowing for players to use their existing PS1/2/3 disc to get the latest version of the older games other than that I'm just not seeing that in my future....
But what about Nintendo... well... as a Streamer I'm always looking for ways to Switch things up and added to my lineup. The biggest drawback with Nintendo is that all the games I would want to play are basically the first party in house developed games. But maybe we'll address that at some point in the future.

What Is Planned For The Week Of June 14
Looking ahead for this upcoming week over at twitch.tv/fredcasden, I'm trying to figure some things out as what the line up is going to be. Of course some things are already locked it based on major games that are either weekly features or part of the current tour.
June 14: Sunday Night Overwatch (PC)
- More than likely this feature normal quick place / role queue matches, as the Anniversary event has already ending earlier this week. So there isn't any pressure to get wins or to run something like Uprising over and over again.
June 15 & 16: Mass Effect Andromeda
- Monday and Tuesday will be completely focused of Mass Effect Andromeda, with roaming around Eos being the major priority on Monday, doing what quests I am able to before returning to the Nexus. That may carry over into Tuesday, it really depends on how much better I can with playing ME:A with a controller as opposed to a mouse and keyboard in order to deal with the Kett.
June 17: Gears of War
June 17: Gears of War
-Wednesday night the plan is to tackle more of Gears of War with Iceman, picking up somewhere in Act II. If Iceman can't make it, then I'll probably do some random gaming, maybe Power Rangers Battle for the Grid's story mode, or other console things
June 18: Star Trek Online
June 18: Star Trek Online
- Thursday of course is dedicated to Star Trek Online, and picking up with things on New Romulus for our Cardassian Captain in the Klingon Defense Force. More than likely this will be a lot of ground stuff as it does take quite a bit of time to get from part of the map to the other.
June 19: Trials of Mana or WWE 2K20
- So as of the time of this writing, on June 12, I figure I should be able to finish Trials of Mana, but of course, things could go horribly wrong with an expected difficulty spike. If I don't finish Trials of Mana tonight then it will be finished next Friday. If I do finish Trials of Mana tonight, then next Friday we'll start going through the story stuff for WWE 2K20
June 20: Twitch Sings
June 19: Trials of Mana or WWE 2K20

June 20: Twitch Sings
- Saturdays are of course always for singing, no real plan other than continuing to do songs on expert, complete duets and open seeds. The usual literal song with lack of dance.
Of course this is subject to change but this is a general idea of what I have planned for this upcoming week.

Be Like Kor, But Don't Be Like Doctor Beverly Crusher
I saw this meme going around on Twitter based on the Deep Space Nine episode Blood Oath, where Kor calls Daz 'Curzon' when he's in a holding cell and is exited to see an old friend, and is corrected by Dax who says their first name is now Jadiza. The reason for this is that Dax is a Trill, an alien race that has a symbiotic existence, a humanoid host carrying a slug that has centuries of living experience. When a host dies, the symbiont is transferred to the next qualified person to its host, regardless of it being male or female. There is an entire process to determine if someone is qualified to be a host for the symbiont, but for the most part it is pretty straight forward.
The Trill do have a 'policy' that when the symbiont gets a new host, all ties to its previous life are cut, so Dax would not have gone out of their way to tell Kor who they are now. Hell the only reason Commander Benjamin Sisko knows about Dax in the series pilot the Emissary is because he and Dax are both assigned to Deep Space Nine and Dax while they were Curzon was Sisko's mentor. With that said, Kor knows that Dax is a Trill, he hasn't seen Dax in who knows how long, and when Dax tells him the new first name, Kor just goes with it because again he's exited to meet an old friend once again.
So with all that on the table, being a Star Trek fan and really into a lot of the details, it made me think some people were really trying hard to connect a few moments from that episode to Pride month. It kind of works if you don't know the actual backstory of how how the Trill go about their business. So yeah, Be like Kor because of his instance acceptance of Dax's new host.
And this is where we talk about Doctor Beverly Crusher from Star Trek The Next Generation and the episode 'The Host', the first time The Trill as a species is introduced. You see in this episode, Beverly is having a secret fling with Ambassador Odan, and she doesn't know that he's a Trill until after he is injured on a shuttle flight to mediate a situation between two potentially warring sides. Beverly finds this out when Odan is dying on the operating table and is told that the body is just a shell and that Odan himself is the symbiont within it which needs to survive. The symbiont is placed inside Commander William Riker to provide it a temporary host, and this causes some drama for the negotiations but for Beverly who struggles a bit with the fact that the essence of who Odan was is now in Riker.
There is some drama about Riker's body rejecting the symbiont placing both he and Odan in peril, but in the end everything works out and the new host for Odan is a woman. Odan, in their new permanent host for the foreseeable future, is more than willing to continue to continue the relationship because they do deeply love the good Doctor... but Beverly takes issue with the fact that the Trill basically have no preference for gender orientation because the hosts can be either male or female and she basically can't handle that. Odan fully understand this, but for crying out loud, Beverly shoots Odan down hard. Yes in the context of the show, there is no way the relationship was going to go beyond this one episode, but Beverly was more than willing to work things out in her mind when Odan was in Riker's body for a time, but when she sees the new host, the good Doctor is basically makes up her mind that it isn't going to work for her. Sure Beverly says she'll still love Odan but what are the odds she actually kept in touch with them, as is often the case with relationships in Star Trek that involve a 'guest characters', out of sight, out of mind.
It really is eye-opening going back and seeing that, and realizing Beverly Crusher is completely anti-trans and ends up being a bit racist on top of it because of how the Trill exist. It's really fucking surreal.
So with that said, Don't be Like Doctor Beverly Crusher

Don't Complain About Poll Results If You Refuse To Take Part
While most know me for broadcasting nightly over on Twitch (twitch.tv/fredcasden) that is not all I do, as my day job is in the realm of a Market Research Interviewer. In that role, it is my job to interview people for various different types of projects, it could be something like customer service about a business, giving feedback on area hospitals, or getting thoughts on issues pertaining to politics. It is that last one which is the topic of this particular rant.
Now I know most people hate getting telephone calls to do a survey, because depending on which side of the political spectrum you consider yourself to be, sometimes the questions can come across as being slanted. Can surveys be a little long, they vary in length, but typically they end up being about 20 minutes, and I know, there are things one would rather do than answer questions for even that length of time, particularly if there are statements being made for or against people in or running for a particular office.
However, when you factor in that number of polls results that published on major news websites, universities and are featured on news channels such as Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN... and on top of that we at this time have President who either bragging or complaining about the results of polls, depending on what the results are which carries over to the average citizens that either support or oppose him, it seems that taking part in political polls is carrying more weight now than it did a few years.
Which brings me to the 'title' of my rant here, and I'm not just saying because of my current profession, I'm saying it as an American who sees the poll results, and I actually wonder how many people are complaining about the results were asked to participate but did not, regardless of their party affiliation. Or how many responses were thrown out because someone did not like the line of questioning when there answer choices that reflect exactly that. You see, to ensure that the polls you see on your favorite news site or news channel are fair, that they are representative of how you think or feel, taking part in when invited too helps... and it cuts down on disputing the results.
Plus more often than not, doing a political poll gives you an idea of what both sides are saying, and if you haven't even thought about an upcoming election, it's way to get some information to give you some consideration over the major players are on the ballot. Yes, I do run into those folks who say they are just going straight Republican or Democrat, but considering most polls are also looking to see how people react to current events or issues, or to see how they view the typical political mudslinging that happens in general elections.

Freeform Rant: The DMCA Drama on Twitch
This week, many of my fellow Twitch Streamers have been hit with DMCA take-down orders as it relates to clips containing licensed music, and from my point of view, it's just the latest in a series of on-going legal wrangling from the Music Industry to 'protect the recording artists and record labels'. Is it their right to make such demands, why yes, yes it is, they own the copyright on the music... and from my point of view as a Twitch Streamer, I often look at those channels that do nothing but act like glorified radio stations or night club DJ's, playing nothing but licensed music as being a novelty act that was just asking for trouble... and they are probably the ones being hit the hardest by this.
From my point of view, this is nothing new, as some may know I did have a YouTube Channel that was called Fred Casden's Basement, where I did full on reviews that featured content in the realm of Fair Use, such as using screen captures of shows or scans of comic books I was discussing, among other things to try and spice up my content. When my channel grew to where it could be monetized to get some income on my work, that's when I started to have a few issues, such as CBS taking ownership of a review I did for their awful MacGyver reboot because I used a few screen shots from that weeks episode to make my point, and when I started to port Twitch broadcasts to that channel, I noticed that the Warner Music Group was really protective over certain songs that appeared in Saints Row The Third and Saints Row IV. Now in the case of the issues with CBS, since I was doing a review I could of challenged it based on 'Fair Use' because I was making a critical point, but the issue with WMG was a little more complicated.
The music industry, in my lifetime at least, has been really anal about protecting itself against piracy thanks to the events surrounding Napster, and the combinations of the recording artists and the record labels have been doing everything they can to keep as much control over their songs as possible. While the Film and Video Game industry has certainly moved with the times, the former more reluctantly than the later, the Music industry has only taking the smallest of steps forward to expanding use of licensed music, begrudgingly loosing how it appears on streamers channels on YouTube, Mixer, and Twitch if its in the context of a video game... it's why most people tend to turn off in-game music for things like the Grand Theft Auto series because it's such a headache.
As the copyright holders, any record label, for example the Warner Music Group, can demand something be removed, and Twitch has the platform in question here, much like YouTube has to comply with that request. In fact any video game publisher can do the same, however that's not exactly smart business considering the amount of virtually free advertising they get from people who stream video games. Some may argue that Twitch should look out for its streamers, however YouTube already set the president on just being the service provider when it came to such issues back, so Twitch is just following the path laid out.

I don't blame the hire ups at Twitch, they are a business and they are providing a service for people to use. Could they have handled it better, probably, but at the same time, the music industry for the most part is just like Donal Trump, it makes threats that could be bad for everyone if it doesn't get its way. So the question is what do people do if they aren't gamers and want to play music on their channels... well one, if you are musician, create your own content, don't do covers or perform licensed songs, do your own thing. If you're wanna-be DJ, well mix your own beats, create your own tracks that aren't licensed to a record lable. If you are gamer, don't have Spotify, iTunes or Amazon music playing tracks as you stream. The issue of in-game music is still a thing, but if its a game with a ton of license music like a Saints Row or a Grand Theft Auto, probably best not to use the in-game tunes, you might want to either lower the volume to where can barely be heard or just turn the in-game music off.
Of course that's just my opinion.
Of course that's just my opinion.
The Story Of The Bunny - How Twitch Sings Lead To Me Having A Mascot
So you may have noticed that a white-fur bunny puppet wearing a faded Phillies jersey has basically become the mascot of not just my Twitch channel (twitch.tv/fredcasden) but also my Twitter (twitter.com/fredcasden) and the story of how that came about is all because of Twitch Sings and remembering how the former host of The Late Late Show, TV's Craig Ferguson often did musical numbers with puppets for occasional cold opens. So I figured I'd use some old-school stuff animals I still had from when I was a baby (a blue bunny and a brown squirrel) to spice things up with them randomly appearing from time to time on duets, but framing things properly to make sure my hands weren't seen proved to be a problem
So in September of 2019, I went on Amazon and started looking for a puppet, and settled on a long-sleeved White Rabbit puppet, primarily because it meant that my left forearm would be covered and the full body of the rabbit could be seen. In addition, my pinky and thumbs could move its arms while my other three fingers would move the head. Now I'm not sure which stream exactly the bunny debuted on, but the first duet it was featured on was with BreakEvenx3 on California Dreamin' on September 10, 2019
Nothing fancy, just the bunny moving to the music and general doing its own thing as I sang and completed the duet in question. One thing I quickly discovered is that just having the bunny being just all fur really wasn't cool looking, and I took a Phillies Jersey off of an old Philly Phanatic plush I had since the 90s, and placed it on the puppet. The jersey may have yellowed with age, but it provided a nice contrast in cases if the Twitch Sings chroma key proved to be difficult to tweak on any given night (which is more often than not a real pain in the ass, but that's a difficult topic all together). The bunny first rocked the Phillies Jersey on September 11, 2019 as I completed a duet with MarvelMaven performing I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honeybunch)
But the real test was of course letting the bunny take center stage, letting him sing... but there was a problem. I haven't figured out a voice for him yet, sure I could do a few silly voices when ready dialog in games that had no voice acting involved, but those were more like place holder things until I could figure out something. So on September 27, which is the the first time the bunny is the 'star' is when he performs with BluVelvet on Ballroom Blitz, the voice is just my own.
Needless to say, that wasn't going to last long and so I started looking into the different voice filters, the next day (September 28 for those keeping track), I used the Supernatural filter for the Bunny... and on a duet of Walk with BlueHwyaden... the Bunny's voice for the next several months was established.
Now for the most part, the bunny doing duets was done off-stream, because I use OBS to stream, which means a live audience would only hear my actual voice instead of the filtered one in Twitch Sings. It didn't bother me to much for several reasons, the biggest being the fact that I have a couch instead of a chair, which means getting down to the floor to where I can see the lyrics and project my voice to the mic was always a pain in the ass. Now of course, the bunny would become a bigger part of my channel, as I commissioned a set of emotes to be made by Daemonsw0lf (https://www.darkwolfcreative.com/) in November of 2020, with some more added in the following months
But eventually, on March 21 2020 I finally figured out the Bunny's voice on that night's live stream, a Mickey Mouse inspired voice, which meant going forward from time to time I could use the bunny on stream to complete a duet. The first duet to feature this voice was with Kalenal on the song Sleeping Sun
And that basically is the story of the bunny. The funny thing is though I never really given him a name, as he's often called Philly because of the Phillies Jersey.

Highlights From May 31 to June 6 2020
This week's highlights includes moments from Overwatch, Final Fantasy XV, Power Rangers Mega Battle, Star Trek Online, Trials of Mana and Twitch Sings. The indication of June 4 being listed twice is not a mistake, as there were two streams on that day, one was to make up for June 3 due to technical issues beyond my control.
